Frequently Asked Questions

Questions Are a Good Place to Start

Whether you are a homeowner, renter, business owner, contractor, property manager, nonprofit, or organization, you may not know which solution fits your situation yet. That is completely normal. My role is to help you understand the whole picture before you make a decision.

About Dave and How the Process Works

These answers explain who I am, who I help, and what you can expect when we begin a conversation.

Who is Dave Brown?

I am an independent connector, advisor, and resource. I help homeowners, renters, businesses, contractors, property managers, nonprofits, and organizations identify opportunities they may not know exist.

Instead of beginning with a product, I begin by understanding the situation. From there, I help connect people with relevant programs, technologies, services, professionals, and solutions.

What does Dave’s Energy Solutions do?

Dave’s Energy Solutions helps people and businesses reduce unnecessary waste, improve efficiency, better understand their options, and connect with trusted resources.

That may include energy optimization, solar, battery storage, smart technology, water and sewer efficiency, utility programs, commercial building improvements, contractor resources, or other services available through my professional network.

Do you help with solar?

Yes. I have access to experienced, top-quality companies that provide residential and commercial solar systems, equipment, service, and professional installation.

If you are interested in solar, I prefer to begin with a reduce before you produce conversation. That means looking for unnecessary energy waste before deciding how much solar generation may be needed.

Reducing waste first may allow the home or business to use a smaller, less expensive solar system. Energy optimization and solar may also be installed as part of the same overall project when that approach makes sense.

Our professional team will review the available options, explain the potential advantages and disadvantages, and help you understand the whole picture so you can make an informed decision.

If you already know that you only want solar, I can help with that too. I simply believe it is better to understand whether waste can be reduced before sizing the system.

Solar is absolutely an option. My preference is to optimize first, then produce what the property actually needs.

Why reduce energy waste before installing solar?

A solar system is typically designed around the amount of electricity a property currently uses. If part of that usage is unnecessary waste, the system may be larger and more expensive than it needs to be.

By improving efficiency first, the home or business may require fewer panels, less equipment, and a lower overall investment. Optimization may also improve the value and performance of the solar system after installation.

This is why I believe in reducing before producing whenever practical.

Can solar and energy optimization be installed together?

Yes. In some situations, energy optimization and solar can be included in the same overall project.

The professional team can review the property, current utility usage, available technologies, system design, financing options, and long-term goals. They can then explain whether completing the projects together or in separate stages makes more sense.

Are you tied to one company or product?

No. I work independently and maintain relationships with multiple companies, professional teams, programs, technologies, and service providers.

I may also serve as an independent affiliate or advisor for certain products and services. When that applies, I may receive compensation if someone chooses to purchase, enroll, or move forward through one of my referral relationships.

My goal is to help identify what fits the person or business, not to force one product into every situation.

Who do you help?

I work with:

  • Homeowners
  • Renters
  • Business owners
  • Commercial property owners
  • Property managers
  • Contractors and service companies
  • Real estate professionals
  • Nonprofits and community organizations
  • Schools, churches, and other institutions

Availability varies by location, utility territory, property type, and individual circumstances.

Can you help renters?

Yes. Renters are often left out of energy conversations, but they may still have access to useful programs, smart technology, energy education, community-based energy options, or other services that do not require owning the property.

Some residential energy optimization technologies may also be suitable for renters, depending on the property, installation requirements, utility setup, and approval from the property owner when required.

The available options depend on the renter’s location, utility provider, billing arrangement, and property.

How can you help homeowners?

I help homeowners explore ways to reduce unnecessary energy waste, improve electrical efficiency, better understand utility costs, protect household systems, and evaluate available programs or technologies.

Depending on the situation, that may involve residential energy optimization, smart thermostats, energy monitoring, solar, battery storage, community-based programs, water quality, whole home efficiency, or other solutions.

How can you help businesses?

Businesses may be losing money through electricity waste, demand charges, water and sewer costs, inefficient equipment, heating and cooling systems, refrigeration, power-quality issues, or outdated operations.

I help businesses begin with a utility and operational conversation, identify areas worth examining, and connect with the appropriate professionals, technologies, and service providers when an opportunity is found.

That may include commercial energy optimization, solar, storage, HVAC improvements, building automation, water efficiency, refrigeration support, monitoring systems, or other operational solutions.

What are demand charges?

Some commercial utility customers pay not only for how much electricity they use, but also for the highest amount of power their facility demands during a billing period.

A brief spike caused by HVAC equipment, refrigeration, motors, pumps, compressors, or other systems may influence a significant portion of the monthly bill. The exact structure depends on the utility and rate plan.

Demand management, equipment scheduling, monitoring, and optimization may help reduce unnecessary peaks in some facilities.

Can you help businesses reduce water and sewer waste?

Yes. Water and sewer expenses can be substantial for restaurants, hotels, apartment communities, laundromats, car washes, healthcare facilities, food processing, agriculture, manufacturing, and other water-intensive operations.

I can help begin the conversation, identify whether a water and sewer review may be worthwhile, and connect the business with appropriate specialists and efficiency solutions.

In some businesses, the largest utility leak is not electrical. It is water.

Do you guarantee savings?

No. Every property, utility rate, building, customer, piece of equipment, and technology is different.

Any projected savings, performance estimates, incentives, or financial outcomes should be evaluated using the customer’s specific information and confirmed by the appropriate provider or professional.

I do not make guarantees simply to create a sale.

Is the discovery call free?

Yes. The initial discovery call is an opportunity for us to learn about each other, discuss your goals or concerns, and determine whether there may be useful options to explore.

There is no pressure and no obligation to purchase anything.

What happens during the discovery call?

I will ask questions about your home, business, utility expenses, current systems, challenges, goals, and location.

If there appears to be a relevant opportunity, I will explain the possible next step or connect you with the appropriate professional team. If I do not believe there is a good fit, I will tell you honestly.

Will I be pressured to buy something?

No. My approach is relationship-based and educational.

The first step is understanding what is happening. A product or service should only enter the conversation when it has a reasonable connection to the problem, goal, or opportunity being discussed.

Why should I talk with you instead of contacting a company directly?

A company usually begins with the product or service it provides. I begin with your situation.

Because I work across multiple areas and maintain a broad professional network, I may be able to help you see options, connections, and opportunities that are easy to miss when looking at only one company or one solution.

My role is to help you understand the whole picture and connect you with qualified professionals who can explain the details, options, advantages, disadvantages, and next steps.

Where do you provide services?

I work with homeowners, renters, businesses, contractors, and professional networks throughout the United States and Canada.

I am also actively expanding my international network, with plans to make additional products, services, and opportunities available in more countries around the world.

Programs, utilities, products, regulations, installers, and services vary by location, so the first step is confirming what is currently available in your area.

Can contractors and service companies work with you?

Yes. I am actively building relationships with electricians, HVAC companies, solar professionals, plumbers, roofers, refrigeration companies, general contractors, property-service companies, and other qualified professionals.

These relationships may create opportunities to expand services, add complementary technologies, help existing customers, improve customer retention, and participate in a broader professional ecosystem.

Can real estate professionals work with you?

Yes. I work with agents, brokers, teams, brokerages, property managers, investors, and professionals who serve homeowners and businesses.

I can introduce relevant technologies, efficiency resources, client-support tools, and professional connections that may help them create more value for their clients and network.

What if I do not know what solution I need?

That is exactly when a discovery conversation can be useful.

You do not need to know the product, program, or technical answer. You only need to explain what is happening, what concerns you, or what you are trying to improve.

We can begin there.

How are you compensated?

Compensation varies depending on the product, service, program, or professional relationship involved.

In some cases, I may receive an affiliate commission, referral compensation, revenue share, or other payment from a provider when someone chooses to move forward through my introduction.

This generally does not create a separate advisory fee charged by me unless that arrangement is clearly disclosed and agreed to in advance.

Are you a licensed attorney, CPA, financial advisor, engineer, or utility company?

No. I do not provide legal, tax, accounting, investment, engineering, or utility-regulatory advice.

When a situation requires specialized expertise, I connect people with appropriately qualified professionals who can perform the evaluation and provide the required guidance.

Are you an energy supplier or utility company?

No. I am not a utility company.

I am a certified independent Energy Advisor through the Think+ Energy network, and I may educate eligible customers about available energy plans, approved programs, smart technology, or other options in participating markets.

Availability, eligibility, rates, terms, and potential benefits are determined by the applicable provider, utility territory, and program rules.

What information should I have ready before we talk?

It can be helpful to have a recent utility bill, general property information, your location, and a brief explanation of what you are trying to improve.

Businesses may also benefit from having electric, water, sewer, equipment, demand-charge, or operating-cost information available.

You should remove or cover sensitive personal or account information before sharing documents unless a secure process has been provided.

Understanding Comes Before Solutions

Not every home needs the same technology. Not every renter qualifies for the same program. Not every business has a demand-charge problem, and not every building is wasting water. Solar may be the right solution, but reducing waste first may improve the design, economics, and long-term value of the system. The purpose of the first conversation is to understand what may actually make sense for your situation.

Still Have a Question?
